Women in their 50s are keen to learn more about sexual health issues, according to new research.

Dr Cynthia Morton and a team of University of Florida researchers discovered that improvements need to be made in the way information about sexual health is transmitted between doctors and their female patients.

The research team added that older women’s negotiation skills might also need to improve when it comes to the discussions they have with their partners about safe sex.

Dr Morton said: “The findings generated from our research offer a rich foundation for better understanding the motivations and concerns that influence senior-aged women’s attitudes about dating at their present stage of life.”

Many women in their 50s feel uncomfortable about raising the issue of sexual health with their doctor, according to the study which has been published in the Journal Of Consumer Affairs.
